Root Amputation

Our number 1 priority in endodontic care is to preserve your natural teeth, but in some cases where a tooth is fractured or infected with bacteria, that may not be an option. A Root Amputation, or root resection, is a procedure that Dr. Bahador performs on a damaged root of your tooth with the goal of preserving the rest of it, which is a less costly option than a dental implant.

Root Amputation in Westerville

A root amputation works to save as much of the tooth as possible by removing a single root from a multi-rooted tooth. A small incision is made in the gum line to expose the damaged root. Dr. Bahador will then section off and remove the root that is damaged or infected. Once the procedure is complete, the rest of the tooth can be maintained and functional.

If you have a damaged or fractured tooth, contact our office for a consultation. The longer you wait to have this tooth addressed, the more likely you are to attract bacteria that can permanently ruin the tooth and weaken the bone structure that holds your other teeth in place.
